In Memory of Terry Dobney
**30/12/1948 - 26/8/2021**
Terry Dobney; Archdruid of Avebury and Keeper of the Stones, co-founder of the Druids Order of Avebury, was a man whose presence and spirit left an indelible mark on all who knew him.
From a young age, Terry's curiosity was sparked by a simple question to his teacher: "What is a Druid?" This curiosity blossomed into a lifelong journey of wisdom, learning, and teaching that touched the hearts and minds of many across the world. Known for his deep intelligence, engaging conversations, and profound teachings, Terry had an unparalleled ability to connect with people. His mischievous glint, cheeky grin, and famous bear hugs are fondly remembered by all who encountered him. He was a lovable rogue whose presence filled any room.
Terry was not just a Druid in title; he lived his beliefs every day. He walked the walk and talked the talk, visiting the sick and dying across the country, offering comfort and support in countless ways. His dedication to Avebury and its sacred landscape was unwavering. Whether conducting ceremonies, guiding tours, or simply lending an ear to those in need, Terry always made time for others. His mentoring spanned across borders, impacting individuals both in his home country and abroad.
Though Terry is no longer with us in body, his spirit remains ever present. His teachings live on in the ceremonies held in Avebury, a testament to his enduring influence. We will hear his chuckle in the wind, feel his warm embrace in the sunlight, and sense his essence in the stones he so dearly loved. Terry Dobney shall never be forgotten; his legacy lives on in the hearts of all who were fortunate enough to know him.
In 21, the bell did toll.
His spirit released now from his role.
A Druid. And keeper, of the stones.
Left this place for realms unknown.
His love he shared to all who knew
The words he said, believed it true.
The rising sun and wind that blew.
Romantic dance of Earth and moon.
A sacred space of standing stones.
Was in his heart. His soul. His bones.
While shadows danced around the ground.
He’d share his wisdom from what he’d found.
In 21, the bell did toll.
His spirit released now from his role.
A Druid. And keeper, of the stones.
Left this place for realms unknown.
The knowledge from one who loved to teach.
No more can give to those who seek.
Inspiring those who gave their verse.
Of air and water. Fire and Earth.
The bond of two that he would bless.
And names to new life, he’d regest.
When standing high upon the hill.
Invoking power for growth and will.
In 21, the bell did toll.
His spirit released now from his role.
A Druid. And keeper, of the stones.
Left this place for realms unknown.
Time will heal his lady’s mourn.
The turning wheel forever more.
Internment of his dust from bones.
In love and peace, be set in stone.
Farewell my brother. Teacher and friend.
I can’t believe this is the end.
The legacy of a man so true.
An honour it was, to of known you!.
In 21, the bell did toll.
His spirit released now from his role.
A Druid. And keeper, of the stones.
Left this place for realms unknown.
Cliff Carr.
