Following the sad passing of our founder, Terry Dobney, I was proud to take over as chair of the Druid Order of Avebury. The continuity of his teaching and philosophy is important to myself and the rest of the order which contains some of his closest friends and indeed, his partner for many years. Avebury is a special place. It is important that this group have Druids ordained by the Arch Druid and who live or practice in the local area. We may not be as permanent as the stones, but we are working on it.
As a child I have many memories of my parents introducing me to energies and the old ways. Teaching me how to work with energies as I was already healing naturally and able to do psychometry, they were spiritualists, healers and on the path. I'm a qualified experienced registered nurse of 38 years, qualified NNEB and worked in social services for 5 years, also qualified and experienced in many disciplines.
Having worked with groups in Cheshire, Lancashire, Northern Ireland, Oxford and Avebury honing my path and lived within the Avebury sacred landscape for 9 years. Working under the guidance and alongside Terry Dobney taking ceremonies, teaching in this country and aboard. I Co-founded the Druids order of Avebury along with the late Terry Dobney AD of Avebury and Henk Vis.
I grew up in the shadow of Uffington White Horse which started my interest in ancient and sacred sites. I first visited Avebury at Lughnasadh in 2006 and follow the Druid path. In 2011, I was raised to Ovate by Terry Dobney, the late Arch Druid of Avebury, and in 2013 I formed Uffington Order of Druids, with the intention to perform ritual and observances as taught by Terry, as well as continuing his teachings. I continue to work at both Avebury and Uffington landscapes, remaining true to Terry's teachings which have not been altered. In 2022 it was formally announced that I would be taking on one of Terry’s roles, that of Keeper of the Stones; a liaison role. This includes conducting talks and tours, media liaison, and attending meetings with partner agencies.

My name is Carl Smalebeorg, and I am a nature druid and spiritual healer. My path is one that embraces the harmonic connections between druidry and the natural world. My interests lie deeply in nature, conservation, wildlife, and the interpretation of spiritual vibrations. I am fascinated by geology and the landscape, the significance of ancient megaliths both historically and in contemporary society, and the intricate web of "laylines" that connect these ancient sites. I have a profound appreciation for ancient architecture, cosmology, and astronomy.
In the 1970s, I was drawn to Avebury after watching the TV program "Children of the Stones." This calling led me to visit Avebury in 2010, and in 2011, I stood in my first Gorsedd, an experience that has become a regular part of my life ever since. My journey is one of deep connection with the earth and the ancient wisdom that continues to resonate through its stones and landscapes.
